The key points. Name at least 4 of the 6.
- The trailer on its handbrake, the coupling (koppeling) at the height of the ball (kogel) with the jockey wheel (neuswiel)
- The car straight back until the ball is under the coupling, the car on its handbrake
- The coupling onto the ball until it locks, and checking that it is locked on
- Attaching the breakaway cable (losbreekkabel) and putting in the plug (stekker)
- The jockey wheel (neuswiel) all the way up and fixed, the trailer’s handbrake off
- Walking round the lights
This is a working method from driving lessons. The rules behind it are in the Dutch vehicle regulations (Regeling voertuigen): a secured coupling (koppeling), a breakaway cable (losbreekkabel) on a fixed part of the car, and lights that work.
Instructors’ advice. A working method from driving lessons, not a rule of the law or of CBR.
In the lesson: A safe order
